This piece took many hours as I created emotions through his expression, as he looks onwards to the future. I am a black woman. I believe that we can all move into our futures together, without a divide. With that, we must acknowledge, accept, forgive, and love. Therefore, I used the pain that I felt as a black woman, and got it out on him. I chipped his face, neck and created a muddy foundation for him to sit on. He was forced to sit there and take it. To move forward as a community, I believe black people must express our hurt, like me. White people would have take it, and acknowledge all of the pain. They would have to wear their past confidently, like this man, instead of erasing history, or bypassing it. Next, I believe, healing and change could become the future. Everything would be acknowledged and accepted in both parties, and forgiveness can be given. From there, new pure love can bloom, like my love for this piece. He’s a symbol of evolution.
